Fairly unlikely. Here’s the problem in a nutshell:

• The last natural peppers entered as a record attempt was the ghost pepper and Naga at 1 million and 1.3 million SHU respectively.
• All current winners and runners up are hybrids bred specifically for heat, we’re now at 3.18 SHU for Pepper X, 2.09 for Scorpion T (restarting hybridization this season to beat Pepper X with a 5 million $ budget), and 2.48 SHU for Dragon’s Breath.

So is it possible? Anything is possible. It would likely be a new species or an accidental hybrid.

I grew Habanero, Thai hots, Cayenne, Big Jim, Jalapeno, and Serrano peppers. Everything I needed for salsa crowded together in one bed without regard to crosses. I didn’t care. My Thai hot survived from seed and grew back hotter and hotter every season until they were unfathomably hot.
