There are so many varieties of Bananas, accordingly the tastes differ.

Let's see few varieties and their respective tastes.

Generally it would be a mixture of sweetness and sourness. [ புளிப்பு[2] சுவை, in Tamil ] Percentage varies from one type of Banana to another.

Mind you if the Banana is unripe it may taste astringent. [ துவர்ப்பு[3] சுவை, in Tamil]

• Rasthali - This tastes Sweet.
• Poovan - This tastes little bit Sweety and predominantly tastes sour.
• Elachi - Tastes very sweet and delicious.

Let me share this story to you. This happened in a place where Banana was not available, a distant foreign land from India.

In that unavailable Banana land a person just heard from one of his best friends in India, that there are so many varieties of Banana available, in addition he heard that they were so delicious.

Those were the days where there is no Internet, so he mailed through Post to an Indian friend and asked him to send the Best Banana over the parcel. So our Good Indian friend, carefully selected the Best Variety, and sent him over the parcel.

The person who received the parcel replied to our Indian friend that the Bananas were not that much delicious.

This repeated for nearly three times.

Finally Our Indian friend discovered, that the receiver, have never before tasted a Banana once in his lifetime, so he ate the Banana along with it's covering, the skin, rind.
