In Ireland. Having knotweed growing in a garden and if the plant spreads to adjacent properties this can be construed as causing it to spread. Especially if the land owner has not been shown to have the knotweed managed by a specialist contractor. There is already a court precedent set where costs of knotweed removal were awarded to a neighbour against a local authority. It is an offence now in Ireland to cause, allow or disperse to grow any of the invasive plants set out in the third schedule part 1 plants. These regulations are 49 & 50 of SI. 477 Birds and Natural Habitats Regulations - 2011.

Knotweed may also impact on the value of your house as this plant can grow up through concrete, tarmac and can ruin lawns.

In ogni caso, è gestibile (faccio giardinaggio in Giappone) e ci sono piante che sono peggio di questa in Giappone, se ti fa sentire meglio :-). Tutto quello che devi fare è tagliare i germogli appena appaiono, senza pietà, cerca di distruggere le radici, che possono essere molto lunghe, e fallo con metodo, non lasciarla crescere e raccogliere energia solare. Ricompariranno molte volte ma la loro fonte di energia non è infinita e alla fine moriranno.

I germogli sono commestibili, a proposito, quindi consideralo un nuovo ortaggio nel tuo giardino.
