The frequency of the wings beating may happen to be in the range that humans can hear.
2. Mimicking a bee or wasp.
The beating of wings may have evolved so a predator can’t tell the difference between the cicadas wing frequency and the wing frequency of a wasp or bee.
A predator (you?-) that has been stung by a bee or wasp has learned to avoid that sound. So it won’t eat the relatives of that cicada that makes that sound.
