No plant can grow, or even survive very long, without light. However, there’s light indoors, right? You can see, can’t you? So that means there’s light. But there are many kind, or species, of plants, and some kinds need more light to grow than other kinds. The kinds that don’t need so much are what we call “house plants.”

Here’s a basic rule - if there’s not enough light for you to read a book, there’s not enough light for any kind of plant, if you can read a book, but only for a short time, that’s the lowest light level for plants, and only a few can survive in that light - snake plant, ZZ plant, cast iron plant. As the light level increases, there are more and more plant species that can be added to the environment.
