I should point out that the coolest mythological creatures have already been used because they are the coolest. This answer is based on mythological creatures that I like but aren’t well known.
Clurichauns have a liking for alcohol and Irish mythology says that they can get rather rowdy. They also have a habit of entering human buildings and drinking their alcohol, usually imitating the resident or owner. Someone who’s an alcoholic will inspire Clurichauns to drink a lot of alcohol too. Someone who only drinks now and then will find that the Clurichauns only drink now and then. This suggests one thing: Clurichauns have strong livers and have a stronger internal metabolism than humans. This means that they will be great for the alcohol industry.
The other answer described how they’d suit the modern world, but a medieval fantasy world as a fantasy race?
Let’s see what they can do:
Enter any building they like and resist attempts to remove them.
Mould their drinking habits to mimic someone else.
Tolerate huge amounts of harmful liquid.
Detect the presence of alcohol.
Clurichauns sound like they have heightened senses of smell, a huge degree of persistence, and can resist poison.
