Disclaimer: My answer might be biased towards the Indian context.
Wealthy people possess (wealth of course) access to resources better than the poor.
The reason poverty is a vicious cycle is this advantage. (I am not calling it unfair because there might be self-made billionaires and I don’t want to resort to hasty generalization)
Let’s start from infancy. The baby born in a relatively rich household would be provided better nutrition. (for example, his parents can import high quality processed food for him)
The effects of this are very well summarized in this study by the US National Library of Medicine.[1]
Well what is brain development for? - education primarily!
Talking about education, the supremacy of private schools divides the ‘market’ (as economists might call it) of education into two parts - a quality one and an inferior one. No points for guessing who would be getting the quality one, assuming that there are no tests for merit in primary school admissions.
This trend continues in further studies as well, and students with enough family wealth are more likely to pursue higher education in India/abroad.
Signaling effect due to degrees from institution of ‘higher quality’ facilitates these students to get opportunities to work in better companies. And the cycle continues.
