Perché le istruzioni su un pacchetto di semi ti fanno spaziare i semi vicini, dopo che le piante sono cresciute di qualche centimetro, devi diradarli?

Its all about maximizing your yield in a given space.

  • Not all seeds are viable. Buying seeds from a seed company usually ensures that you will get very good germination rates. But even then, you won’t get 100% germination. So if you space out your seeds, then you will have some gaps where nothing sprouts. That just becomes wasted space. Seeding densely and then thinning makes the best use of your available space.
  • Not all seedlings are created equal. Some are strong and some are weak. Thinning allows you to pick only the strongest plants. The strongest plants produce the highest yields, so you will get the most out of your space by growing the strongest plants possible. When you thin, you remove the weaklings and give the strongest plants enough space to thrive.

Seeds are cheap and abundant, but growing space is not. Its more efficient to waste a bit of seed by thinning, rather than waste a bit of space.

E' per evitare che le tue file abbiano dei 'salti'. Tre o quattro piedi di fila dove non viene fuori niente. A meno che non si pianti da vicino e si assottigli più tardi, alla fine si avranno dei salti. Tutto quello che puoi fare allora è ripiantarli.
