The problem is that bare earth is unstable. It will require energy (from you) to clear everything away, and more energy (from you again) to keep it that way. Bare earth is just crying out to be covered by plants, and weeds are more than happy to oblige.
Exciting new technology has fortunately provided a solution, and I have just the thing for you. Rubber mulch.
Rubber mulch from ground-up tires will kill everything and poison the soil for generations to come.
And best of all, it biodegrades very slowly (if at all). It might bleach out a little, but for all practical time-scales it never breaks down.
Some new soil may blow in and cover the mulch, and a few weed seeds might try to grow. But they will never thrive. A leafblower to keep the area clear is probably all you need.
Rubber mulch is now sold everywhere. You can find it in stores like Lowes and Home Depot. I recommend the sheets rather than the raw chips, they are easier to handle and don’t move around.
