A Pittosporum Golf Ball will achieve a 1.2 m / 4ft height and spread in as little as three years - a Box plant would take eight years or so. It's ideal for smaller or medium-sized gardens, normally grown as a single specimen. The lime-green foliage looks good all year long.

Pittosporum plants tend to live to at least 50 years old and may live as long as 150 years.

PITTOSPORUM

Pittosporum is one of the most popular 'go-to' native shrubs for hedging, shelter, shrubbery, and screens. It is a very desirable shrub with dark almost black stems and lush green smallish leaves. It is very fast-growing and unfussy about conditions.

There are mainly three varieties of Pittosporums grown in cultivation in New Zealand, and there are a great many cultivars derived from these. The three main types are:

• Kohuhu - Pittosporum Tenuifolium
  • Tarata or Lemonwood - Pittosporum Eugenoides
  • Karo - Pittosporum Ralphii or Pittosporum Crassifolum

Kohuhu - Pittosporum Tenuifolium - by far the most popular and versatile Pittosporum, Kohuhu is brilliant for hedging, screens, and shelter. It is fast-growing and will thrive from alpine to coast. Forms a rounded shrub 5m tall.

Lemonwood - Pittosporum Eugenoides - Lemonwood is the largest growth of the three and becomes a large shrubby tree approx 12m tall. Very useful for taller fast-growing shelter.

Karos - Pittosporum Ralphii - A shorter shrubby tree to approx 6m. Larger left than Kohuhu.

Stephens Island - This appears similar to Pittosporum tenuifolium and Pittosporum ralphii and is most likely a natural hybrid somewhere in between. Altamente raccomandato per situazioni costiere ventose. Crescita più piccola, fogliame molto bello e resistente!

Il Pittosporum risponde bene al taglio e alla sagomatura, motivo per cui sono così popolari per le siepi. Una siepe di Pittosporum è un bel modo morbido per creare rapidamente uno schermo denso. La vostra siepe di Pittosporum richiederà pochissime potature e cure. Se vi sfugge di mano, anche una siepe di Pittosporum molto trascurata può essere facilmente ravvivata con una bella potatura e avrà un aspetto fantastico in pochissimo tempo.
