Come sogno i film
Oh, I wanna be just as close as the Holy Ghost is
And lay you down on a bed of roses
Well I'm so far away
That each step that I take is on my way home
A king's ransom in dimes I'd given every night
Just to see through this payphone
Baby blind love is true
Oh, I wanna be just as close as the Holy Ghost is
And lay you down on a bed of roses
Well, this hotel bar's hangover whiskey's gone dry
The barkeeper's wigig stoked
And she's giving me the eye
I might have said yeah
But I laughed so hard I think I died, ooh yeah
E stenderti
Su un letto di rose

Spandau Ballet, “True”.
So true funny how it seems
Always in time, but never in line for dreams
Head over heels when toe to toe
This is the sound of my soul
This is the sound
I bought a ticket to the world
But now I've come back again
Why do I find it hard to write the next line?
Oh, I want the truth to be said
I know this much is true
I know this much is true
With a thrill in my head and a pill on my tongue
Dissolve the nerves that have just begun
Listening to Marvin all night long
This is the sound of my soul
This is the sound
Always slipping from my hands
Sand's a time of its own
Take your seaside arms and write the next line
Oh, I want the truth to be known
I know this much is true
I know this much is trueI bought a ticket to the world
But now I've come back again
Why do I find it hard to write the next line?
Oh, I want the truth to be said
I know this much is true
I know this much is true
This much is true
This much is true
This much is true
I know, I know, I know this much is true
This much is true
This much is true
This much is true
This much is true
I know this much is true
This much is true
This much is true
I know this much is true
This much is true
This much is true
Tom Waits
He went down down down
and the devil called him by name
he went down down down
hangin' onto the back of a train
he went down down down
this boy went solid down
always chewed tobacco
and the bathtub gin
always chewed tobacco
and the bathtub gin
he went down down down
this boy went solid down
he went down
Well he went down down down
and the jumped on his head
he went down down down
stayin' in a broken down shed
he went down down down
sleepin' in the devil's bed
he went down down down
never listened to the words I said
he went down down down down
he went down
Well he went down down down
and the devil said where you been
he went down down down
he screamin' down around the bend
down down down
this boy went solid down
He was always cheatin'
and he always told lies
he was always cheatin'
and he always told lies
he went down down down
down down down
this boy went solid down
he went down
A lot of songs with disturbing lyrics (by contemporary standards) were released in the 1960s, but this one flat-out romanticizes domestic violence as the ultimate display of love:
He Hit Me (And It Felt Like A Kiss)
Artist: The Crystals
Songwriters: Carole King / Gerry Goffin
He hit me
And it felt like a kiss
He hit me
But it didn't hurt me
He couldn't stand to hear me say
That I'd been with someone new,
And when I told him I had been untrue
He hit me
And it felt like a kiss
He hit me
And I knew he loved me
If he didn't care for me
I could have never made him mad
But he hit me,
And I was glad
Yes, he hit me
And it felt like a kiss
He hit me
And I knew I loved him
And then he took me in his arms
With all the tenderness there is,
And when he kissed me,
He made me his
I’ll also throw in this song sequel to It’s My Party, which is sadistic, gloating, and pathetic at the same time. In the original song, Johnny—whom the singer has been dating—disappears from her birthday party, only to make a grand re-entrance officially coupled up with another girl. We all know this one: He jilts her at her own birthday party and then cruelly makes a spectacle of himself with Judy.
The sequel: At a subsequent party, the tables are turned when Johnny, while kissing new love Judy, realizes he does love the song’s narrator after all and proves it—by jilting Judy this time and then punching someone. The jubilation is what makes this creepy.
Judy’s Turn to Cry
Artist: Lesley Gore
Songwriters: Beverly Ross / Edna Lewis
'Cause now it's Judy's turn to cry
Judy's turn to cry
Judy's turn to cry
'Cause Johnny's come back
To me
Aww when Judy left with Johnny at my party (my party)
And came back wearing his ring
I sat down and cried my eyes out
Now that was a foolish thing
'Cause now it's Judy's turn to cry
Judy's turn to cry
Judy's turn to cry
'Cause Johnny's come back
To me
Well it hurt me so to see them dance together
I felt like making a scene
Then my tears just felt like rain drops
'Cause Judy's smile was so mean
But now it's Judy's turn to cry
Judy's turn to cry
Judy's turn to cry
'Cause Johnny's come back
To me
Oh one night I saw them kissing at a party
So I kissed some other guy
Johnny jumped up and he hit him
'Cause he still loved me that's why
So now it's Judy's turn to cry
Judy's turn to cry
Judy's turn to cry
'Cause Johnny's come back
To me
So now it's Judy's turn to cry
Judy's turn to cry
Judy's turn to cry
'Cause Johnny's come back
To me
Not exactly the quote, but close:
Here: Billie Eilish - Bellyache
Sittin' all alone
Mouth full of gum
In the driveway
My friends aren't far
In the back of my car
Lay their bodies
Where's my mind
Where's my mind
They'll be here pretty soon
Lookin' through my room for the money
I'm bitin' my nails
I'm too young to go to jail
It's kinda funny
Where's my mind
Where's my mind
Where's my mind
Where's my mind
Maybe it's in the gutter where I left my lover
What an expensive fate
My V is for Vendetta
Thought that I'd feel better
But now I got a bellyache
Everything I do the way I wear my noose
Like a necklace
I wanna make 'em scared like I could be anywhere
Like I'm wreck-less
I lost my mind
I don't mind
Where's my mind
Where's my mind
Maybe it's in the gutter where I left my lover
What an expensive fate
My V is for Vendetta
Thought that I'd feel better
But now I got a bellyache
Maybe it's in the gutter where I left my lover
What an expensive fate
My V is for Vendetta
Thought that I'd feel better
But now I got a bellyache

““If I Die Young” by the Band Perry.
“If I die young bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song
Uh oh uh oh”
The Best Selling Song of 2020.
