The moon affects the Earth in more ways than regulating the tides. But without the moon, there would be no more tides.

Now think of spinning top. At first it spins in a very stable way. Then as the spin wears down it starts to wobble and then it topples. The moon keeps that from happening to the spinning top we call Earth.
