Best things to do hidden gems:

  • Liberty Theater. I don't think it's changed much since it first opened. Show up for the show slightly early for added entertainment.

  • Caffe Piccolo Paradiso, on Birch, between 2nd and 3rd Streets.

  • Twilight Pizza is a good traditional pizza parlor

  • Oliver's on Third has a good reputation, but I have not eaten there.

  • Hiking on the Round Lake and Lacamas Creek trails

  • Boating on Lacamas Lake, which seems to be safer than boating, especially when tubing or skiing, on the Columbia given the floaters on the later

Interesting companies, often the real hidden gems of an area:

  • Furuno -- they make the radar you see atop ships and yachts

  • Underwriter's Laboratories - they run electronic test labs and apply the UL stamp

  • WaferTech - the largest integrated circuit (IC) semiconductor foundry in the US

  • Linear Technologies - leaders in the area of analog semiconductors used in everyday consumer and industrial devices

  • Sharp Microelectronics / Sharp Laboratories - Sharp Microelectronics Americas and R&D with over 2,000 patents filed since their founding

  • Karcher Commercial - World's largest manufacturer of cleaning equipment

  • HSA - Crucibles for use In manufacturing silicon crystals and ingots for semiconductors

  • Fisher Investments - an investment firm closely associated with billionaire Ken Fisher, who also authors Forbes Magazine's Portfolio Strategy column

These companies are all in Camas. Remarkable set for a town of under 20,000.

Sitting just outside Camas: Nautilus (Bowflex, Schwinn, Universal, Stairmaster, ecc.), HP, Wacom, e forse altre ancora.

Portland e le aree circostanti hanno la loro serie di aziende (Intel, Nike, ecc.).

It all depends on what you're looking for... and how much diversity is enough.

Camas is not exactly monotone, but the non-whites are mostly Asian of some extraction, and those of Latin American descent. There are African American families but not a very large number of them. In my observation, there isn't much overt racial discrimination.

From the 2010 census, the racial makeup of Camas was 87.4%White, 1.0% African American, 0.6% Native American, 6.0% Asian, 0.2% Pacific Islander, 1.2% from other races, and 3.6% from two or more races. Hispanic orLatino of any race were 4.1% of the population.

Vancouver, being larger, would be expected to be more diverse. However, near as I can tell, it's pretty much exactly the same, just bigger. I'm sure there are deeply ethnic pockets around the metro area, but I have yet to stumble across them.

From the 2010 census, the racial makeup of Vancouver was 80.9% White, 2.9% African American, 1.0% Native American, 5.0% Asian, 1.0% Pacific Islander, 4.3% from other races, and 4.8% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 10.4% of the population. That's pretty consistent with what I see around town.

In the seriously good news department, you're just across the river from Portland, which is fairly diverse. Not on par with Los Angeles, Houston, or New York, but much more so than southwest Washington.
