There are countless cases of biopiracy, many having affected whole cities’ and communities’ economies (Look: The rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) ,Amazon 1879-1912(Latex from the tree drove the growth of Manaus), which Sir Henry Alexander Wickham imported (illegally?) and planted in Ceylon, Java and Singapore (British Empire) and started massively producing rubber, destroying Manaus’ monopoly and therefore, economy (Source: Amazon rubber boom - Wikipedia).
