After the winged leaf miner has deposited its eggs, the eggs will hatch and the larva will cruise around the interior of the leaf until it is time to morph into its winged parent. Your best defense is to pick of the leaf with the tell tale tracks and put it into a sealed plastic bag and then dispose of it or burn it.
