Yes, its possible, but, there are a number of issues that need to be addressed.

1. The wood should have bark on it. It needs to be an appropriate deciduous wood. The bark give the roots something to both hold on to as well as providing a surface that will hold water and hold and develop nutrients. Smooth wood surfaces (no bark) can work but it is more likely to be problematic.
2. The wood should not be ‘treated’ wood. No chemically treated wood should be used as that is likely to kill the plant.
3. It needs to be watered and maintained in a humid environment more carefully and consistently than a plant in a pot.
4. It needs to be fertilized more frequently (but in lower concentrations) than a potted plant.
5. Wiring the new plant onto the wood needs to be done with care.

Unless there are many plants (such as in a display) where it is creating a sort of micro-environment, and all the plants can be watered and fertilized together, I would not advise it, as it is likely to require a lot more attention and maintenance.
