Different apples are produced by different varieties of apple tree.

There is only one species, Malus domestica.

Most all varieties of apple are propagated by “grafting”. A cutting from the desired type is grafted to a more vigorous root stock.

The root stock is often propagated by rooting cuttings from a parent tree of that type.

Apple trees grown from seed will not breed true.

You can graft multiple varieties on a single root stock if you like.
