I’ve haven’t yet tried growing a VFT from seed, so this is somewhat of a guess.

Obviously, the normal rules for VFTs apply:

• Feeding it live food is usually better, you can feed it dead insects if they are freshly caught, but you’ll likely need to “massage” the trap to make it think the insect is alive and resisting the trap, it does this so that it can open up if it failed to catch the insect.
• Only give it relatively pure water. Excessive minerals can and will clog the roots on most carnivorous plants, causing the plants to die of thirst. Rain water will usually suffice, but if you can afford it get distilled water or reverse osmosis water. Depending on where you live you may be able to use tap water. I think you can check water for purity before using it with a ppm meter, water should have as low a ppm as possible. There is wide range of numbers people get you to aim for, so I can’t give you a number to aim for, sorry…
• Give it lots and lots of direct sunlight, but don’t let it burn obviously.
• Try and mimic its natural environment, it’s found naturally in various parts of North America.
• Never fertilise the soil.
• When you come to repot it, it will need specific soil.
• You can remove insects from the traps when the trap re-opens. This prevents them from rotting.
• The plant will need dormancy, however I have heard thet it possible to skip the first dormancy.
• If it tries to flower, cut the shoots up an inch from the base. Unless you want the flowers of course, but they aren’t the greatest looking. They nutrients it saves will be invested in bigger traps.
• Finally, only give it insects that fit comfortably inside the traps.
