Non sono sicuro della ragione esatta... Ma sento che la rosa è l'unico fiore che cresce con le spine. Quando si vedono queste spine non si raggiunge il fiore e quando si vede il fiore non ci si preoccupa delle spine. È con il dolore che vediamo la bellezza dell'amore e spero che questa sia la ragione per avere il simbolo dell'amore come Rosa...

Tsk tsk, è un peccato che tutte le risposte qui non menzionino affatto questo.
Tutti voi dovreste davvero leggere di più la mitologia.
Senti, certo, l'idea che una rosa rossa sia un simbolo d'amore è il risultato di secoli di cultura pop che associa la rosa rossa all'amore, ma perché?
Timmy, ehm, immagino non sia abbastanza medievale, eh?
Hodgekin decise un giorno di mandare una rosa rossa a Matilda dalle guance rosee perché gli piaceva l'odore e da allora si è imposto culturalmente?
Naw.
Io sosterrò che le sue origini derivano dal seguente mito.
Afrodite e Adone, la storia di un amante sconvolto.
Vedi che è mitologia greca.
Ad ogni modo, dirò che prima di questo punto, le rose nella mitologia greca e nella cultura pop in generale erano viste come bianche e pure. #WhiteFlower
Un giorno, essendo Afrodite la dea dell'amore, si vantava di come può far innamorare chiunque. Essentially, bragging and being arrogant about her abilities and beauty.
Don’t forget that Aphrodite was born from penis and sea foam. How’s that for attractive?
Anyways, so upon her spree of bragging, all the other gods were pretty annoyed, but then our main man Zeus, in good old Zeus fashion decided to teach Aphrodite a lesson.
Thankfully this time Zeus didn’t have to turn into a swan[1], but he did make her fall in love with a mortal named Adonis.
Get pranked Aphrodite.
Anyways, Adonis was a hunter, and hunting was/is dangerous. Aphrodite did not like this one bit.
Aphrodite was, somewhat against her will, madly in love with Adonis, so the chance of him dying made her go crazy.
That wasn’t it though.
Zeus wasn’t done.
Zeus is never done.
He ends up having a wild bore gore Adonis, thus killing him.
Get pranked Aphrodite.
So what does this have to do with roses, you may be asking?
Well, remember how I said roses were typically defined as being white and pure?
Just as Adonis was about to die, Aphrodite flew in on her kickass chariot from the sky, and swooped in to rush to him.
As she rushed to him, on the ground her foot got pricked by a rose thorn, where her blood seeped into the white rose, turning it a handsome red.
And there she mourned, with red roses around her, and Zeus sending his message against boasting.
So why is a rose, specifically a red rose a symbol of love?
I’m going to say it’s because of this origin story for the red rose, as the red rose was dipped in the blood of the goddess of love, in all her melancholy.
