My favorite novels around that age that were about growing up:

• Anne of Green Gables
• Ella Enchanted (do not judge by the movie, completely different! )
• The Princess Diaries
• The House on Mango Street
• A Wrinkle in Time

And when I was a little older:

• A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
• To Kill a Mockingbird

And even though these are about male characters, they were written by amazing women

• The Outsiders (S.E. Hinton was 16 when she wrote this!)
• The Giver

Practical books about your body ’n stuff that weren't even around when I was a kid, but I wish they had:

• Celebrate Your Body and Celebrate Your Body 2
• The Period Book: A Girl's Guide to Growing Up

And for mom and dad there is

• The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read (and Your Kids Will be Glad That You Did) by Philippa Perry
